Hearing Services

Our ability to communicate starts with good hearing. We are committed to seeing that people who come to us for help hear as well as possible. Our hearing program is staffed by an Audiologist who is licensed by the State of Ohio and certified by the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association and who is skilled in the science of hearing testing and hearing aid fitting. Our state-of-the-art equipment allows us to test people of all ages and abilities including the difficult to test such as infants, toddlers, or developmentally disabled adults.

A complete hearing evaluation includes pure tone testing, speech discrimination, middle ear function, and a visual inspection of the ear canal. We work closely with our patients' physicians to insure that treatable conditions are identified and addressed as early as possible.

When a hearing loss cannot be medically corrected, hearing aids may be recommended. We carry high-quality hearing aids in a variety of styles and brands while keeping the cost as low as possible.

It is especially critical for babies and young children to be checked for hearing loss. A child who does not hear well in the early years is at risk for having problems with speech and language development. Free screenings are available at any time at the Center and are also offered in preschools and daycare centers thoughout the area. Children who have a family history of hearing loss or who have repeated ear infections should be tested frequently.

When someone in the family has a hearing loss, it can put a strain on everyone. It is common for both the person who has hearing loss and other family members to become frustrated and irritable, blaming each other for the difficulty in communicating easily. It is the responsibility of the person who has a hearing loss to explore medical treatment and amplification. Family members can improve the situation by removing as many barriers to communication as possible. See How to Communicate With the Hard of Hearing.
